The 5 Best Beaches in Salcombe, Devon

Salcombe is located in South Devon, England and is renowned for its stunning coastline, turquoise waters, and sandy beaches.

With so many to choose from, we decided to pick out our top five beaches that are worth visiting next time you’re in Salcombe:

1. North Sands - family and dog friendly

This small and sheltered beach is ideal for families with young children and is located just a short walk from the town center. You'll also find the beautiful ruins  of Salcombe Castle and if you're feeling peckish can head to the award winning The Winking Prawn for some delicious food. Dogs are also welcome to join in the fun all year at both the beach and the cafe.

2. South Sands - perfect for watersports

This beautiful sandy beach is a popular spot for swimming, sunbathing, and water sports such as kayaking and paddle-boarding. You can walk from the town, drive or take the ferry from Whitestrand Quay to enjoy the lovely scenery. With Bo's Beach Cafe and water-sports centre, you'll be able to enjoy South Sands for the whole day.

3. East Portlemouth - sandcastles and sunbathing

Accessible by ferry, this is the perfect spot for those looking for a more peaceful place to relax. Ideal for families who want to explore the rock pools and have fun in the shallow water, this beach is also dog friendly all year round. We highly recommend the Prawn Marie rose wrap at the Venus Cafe.

4. Mill Bay - secluded spot

A little further from East Portlemouth beach, you'll find Mill Bay, a privately owned sheltered beach in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). There are toilets and a National Trust car park conveniently nearby. This secluded sandy beach is accessed via a footpath from the village of Mill Bay and is a great spot for swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking.

5. Sunny Cove - peace and quiet

The furthest away and therefore the quietest of them all, Sunny Cove is the perfect place to relax and take in the most beautiful views of the harbour. Just a 10 minute walk along the South West Coast Path

These are just a few of the many impressive beaches that are located in and around Salcombe. Whether you're looking for a bustling beach with plenty of amenities or a secluded spot to escape the crowds, you're sure to find a beach that suits your needs in this beautiful part of Devon.
